Only Wilhelmine would have thought of decorating a ceiling with shells, coral and algae. This created a form of grotto where she could withdraw to read or write letters.
A well-known pastel painting of Margravine Wilhelmine can also be seen here. The artist, Jean-Étienne Litoard, who was the most famous pastel painter of the 18th century, was commissioned to paint this portrait by Maria Theresia when she was on the way to Frankfurt for the imperial coronation of her husband.
